One of us spent this past Fringe building a room inside a room.

The musical is set in a school of magic: a witch's daughter, a forged letter of admission, a wallflower who has spent her life reading from the corner. At the centre of the stage, Jes raised a translucent square of white fabric — an inside, an outside, and a membrane between them. Then the light came in. Shadows stretched and shook against the cloth. The figure that eats fear and shame did not walk the stage; it lived on the fabric, and it was more exact there than any spoken line.

As the protagonist is filled, sentence by sentence, with you are the chosen one, this translucent box becomes the single place she can hide. The glare outside wants to pass through. The person inside wants to keep her own blur. This is the kind of thing we collect: not what reaches the headline, but what shapes how a person manages to live. This time, it took the form of a breathing wall of cloth.
